we are going to buy a car (not new ) around (54 plate) it will be used from time to time for our shop (delivering flowers) we also have a van, but would like a mpv. looking at Renault Scenic, but would like to hear comments on others and on engine size/ diesel. Are the smller petrol engines any good, 1.4 1.6 etc.all comments most welcome
Anything but Renault , take a look at the ‘newer version’ of the VX Zifira. Renault’s have always seemed strange to me.. Their servicing and parts costs are extortionate. An estate car would do a better job. If you are ‘humping’ goods around…. diesel is best engine… more mpg
Need a 7 seater. Buying a grand scenic. Looking to cut costs so have ordered 1.5 Diesel (have already owned 5 seater version and loved it). Am I making a mistake getting the 1.5. Is it worth spending an extra £1100 to get the 1.9 Diesel.Does the bigger car really need the extra power. Will normally have 2 adults and 4 small kids under 10.We will need to keep it for about 6 years.
I’ve worked on Renault diesels and would say that the 1.5 was less troublesome.
Do note the service intervals as these may make a significant difference.
If you have the option of a “FAP” filter I would be tempted to decline;
- good when working but have had reliability issues.
The smaller engine will give less power but I assume you’ve road-tested
the vehicle and reckon it sufficient for your needs. In 5 years the kids will be much bigger and heavier.
